Enping became a city in 1994 with a population of 460 000 and a land of 16 32 sq km. It is adjacent to Xinxing County in the north, Kaiping City and Taishan in the east.
It abounds in agricultural products and herbal medicines. And its major industries include building materials, cement, machinery, textile and food processing. Its floor tiles and mosaic materials are popular in China.
Guangzhou-Zhanjiang Highway and Yinzhuiwan Harbor make Enping's communication convenient. There is Aofeng Scenic Spot not far from the city.
Feng Ru (1883-1910), the first aircraft designer in China, was born in Enping. He went with his father to America when he was only 12 years old. He studied hard in America and became an outstanding aircraft designer in America. He piloted his own plane designed all by himself in 1909, breaking the world record of flying at that time. In 1911 when Xinhai Revolution succeeded, he returned to China, appointed director of China Aircraft-Making Bureau. Feng died in an accident in August of 1912. He was regarded as the father of China's aviation.
