Kaiping City is 140 km away from Guangzhou, located in the southwestern part of the Pearl River Delta.
It was set up as a city in 1993, with a population of 188 000 and an area of 1 611 sq km. The municipal government sits in Sanbu Township consisting of Changsha, Xinchang and Huohai.
Kaiping is one of 18 major grain productive bases in Guangdong with a few local specialties like shukou cabbage, mafeng goose and jinshan garlic. Its construction industry and gelatin for color sensitive materials are well known.
Highways and waterways are convenient. Sanbu Harbor is a first-class one at national level. Lianjinshan Park is an attractive local scenic spot.
Kaiping is also popular for its aged old castles. The locals built those strong tall castles to protect themselves from bandits in the past chaotic period.
