Heshan City sits on the right bank of the Xijiang River, 70 km north of Jiangmen. It became a city in 1993, now with a population of 349 000.
It is one of the farming bases in Guangdong, and pig breeding is a booming business. Its wool blankets and garments are also popular in China.
Heshan Harbor is open to the outside world. Local scenic spots are Beihu Lake, Nanshan Hill, Heshan Art Pavilion and the Ruins of Gulao Pier on the Xijiang River.
