To commemorate the fourth anniversary of the Anti-SARS campaign, carrying forward the Anti-SARS spirit, the Guangzhou Medical College (GMC) established the first Anti-SARS memorial hall-- The Guangzhou Medical College Anti-SARS Memorial Hall. A large number of precious photos and materials display the Anti-SARS spirit of the GMC people. The hall will be an important education base for the students and staff.

In the fight against SARS, the GMC has made significant contributions compared with other Chinese universities. Led by academician Zhong Nanshan the GMC explored a set of effective treatment programs, created an emergency treatment rate of 87.8% and a cure rate of 93%. In cooperation with the Faculty of Medicine, University of Hong Kong, the GMC made outstanding contributions to etiological research. Its experts were sent to 15 provinces across the country to give Anti-SARS advice. Named by Vice Premier Wu Yi, Pro. Xiao Zhenglun went to Beijing for medical support.
