On the morning of February 8, a groundbreaking ceremony for Guangzhou's first yacht club was held in the Water Park in Nansha District. Dignitaries attending the ceremony included Chen Mingde, Vice Mayor of Guangzhou; Luo Zhaoci, Chief of Nansha District; and Fok Chun Wan, Chairman of the Fok Ying Tung Foundation.
The club is located east of the Nansha Information Technology Park, nestled snugly at the foot of the lush Dajiao Mountain and facing a vast stretch of sea. It covers a land area of 10 hectares and a sea area of 7.2 hectares, with 220 berths. Phase 1 of the project, with a floor area of about 5,000 square meters, will include catering, sports, recreation, conference and exhibition facilities.
On the same day, ground was broken for two other large-scale projects, Rende Hospital and Luyuan Residential Estate. Rende Hospital, designed as a Grade 1 hospital, is located west of the Nansha Information Technology Park. Luyuan Residential Estate, the first one in the Seaside New Town, will consist of detached villas, townhouses and apartments; 2,500 residential units in Phase 1 of the project will be rolled out during the Lunar New Year of 2008.
