Guangzhou has once again won laurels in the respect of humane habitat construction. Guangzhou won the honor of the "Award for Living Environment (Water Environment Treatment Best Practices City)" awarded by the Ministry of Construction, P. R. China, for its excellent achievements in the water environment treatment of the Pearl River, gushes in the urban area and promoting human-water harmonious construction.

It is learned that the "Award for Living Environment, (including the Award for Living Environment Best Practices)" set up by the Ministry of Construction, P. R. China aims at honoring those cities, organizations and individuals that have made prominent contributions to improve living environments. The "Water Environment Treatment Best Practices City" is a special award that falls into the category of the "Award for Living Environment Best Practices".

In recent years, Guangzhou has been devoting enormous efforts in the comprehensive treatment of the Pearl River, the gushes in the city and waste water treatment with remarkable achievements. On July 12, 2006, the Pearl-river Crossing was held successfully and Guangzhouers collectively proved the much better water quality of the Pearl River.
