Since the Guangzhou Asian Games Organizing Committee started worldwide solicitation of emblems designs, a total of 2,572 designs have been received. Evaluation of these designs will officially start on August 28.
The Vice Mayor of Guangzhou, Xu Ruisheng, revealed that the majority of the 2,572 designs received are the work of professional designers in China and abroad, with some designs submitted by primary and secondary school students and even prisoners. Following the example of the Beijing Olympic Games Organizing Committee, the Guangzhou Asian Games Organizing Committee invited seven professional design firms to provide designs, which will be judged with the 2,572 solicited designs on an equal footing. The results of the evaluation will be submitted to the Organizing Committee and the Olympic Council of Asia and announced to the public in October.
An expert panel has revised and supplemented the rules and procedures for evaluating the designs. All designs will go through four rounds of evaluation and the designer of the winning design will receive a merit certificate and a RMB 100,000 reward. The winning design is subject to revision according to the expert panel's instructions.
