Guangzhou will host a number of cultural events, including 18 exhibitions and 11 theater performances, as well as smaller events at public squares to mark the National Day holidays, the New Express reported Tuesday.
According to the city's cultural bureau, an exhibition on classics of Guangzhou porcelain starting from Sept.30 in Guangzhou Art Museum is particularly noteworthy as it is the most important exhibition of Guangzhou porcelain since the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949. More than 200 exhibits on show span from the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) to the present day.
Visitors will be able to view about 40 pieces from Qing Dynasty and a few by masters of the Lingnan school like Gao Jianfuꡧ1879-1951?and Chen Shuren (1884-1948). They will also be able to paint their own porcelains under the guidance of Guangzhou porcelain craftsmen.
Another program that citizens should not miss is the "2004-2005 national theatrical classics" which is going to be performed in Guangzhou for the first time. The 11 classics include Face Off from Sichuan Theater, Dream of Dunhuang by Gansu Lanzhou Art Troup, Bagui Chorus by Guangxi Liuzhou Art Troup. These will be staged in Zhongshan Hall, Friendship Theater and Huanghuagang Theater.
Art groups from Guangzhou have also prepared cultural activities to mark the national holidays while cultural organizations at district and county levels will stage 32 shows for free in Guangzhou's main public squares for residents. A Karaoke performance by immigrant workers will be held in Huadu District, and a ball dance for 10,00 people will be held in Zengcheng Plaza.
