Guangzhou Spring Flower Fair is a must at the end of the Chinese lunar year. It has been a long-lasting practice, which is held in the last three days just before the Spring Festival on the Chinese lunar calendar. Several flower pailous (Chinese gateways) are set up with thousands of potted flowers, such as narcissus, pansy, jasmine, camellia, orchid, daffodil, carnation, chrysanthemum and roses of all sorts. In recent years, lots of exotic flowers are introduced to the fair from abroad, and at the same time, local flowers are sold to the different parts of the world. Potted orange trees have been regarded as a symbol of good luck. Locals love to celebrate the New Year's Eve with fresh flowers. That is why Guangzhou is also called "Flower City".
