The ceremony of local telephone number change is to be held in Dongguan's executive center. The city's subscriber number will change from 7 to 8 digits, so as to meet the increased demand for fixed-line phones of local residence and business.
From 00:00 of December 10, 2005, all the local telephone numbers, fax numbers and PHS system will be expanded to 8 digits. One need to add "2"before the 7-digit numbers starting with "2", and add "8" before the rest of the numbers.
Also from tomorrow, every time one dials a 7-digit number, he will be informed about the telephone number expansion. The message will be delivered in Chinese and English.
There is no change of all emergency numbers.
