China and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) will make detailed arrangements on joint development of oil resources at sea area bordering the two countries.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao made the remarks at a regular press conference held in Beijing on Tuesday.
"Through equal and friendly consultations, the two countries have reached an agreement on the oil resources issue in the near waters, and signed a joint development agreement," Liu said at a press briefing.
"The two sides will make further specific arrangements in the future," he said.
China and DPRK signed an agreement on the joint development of offshore oil on December 24, 2005.
The agreement was signed last year by Chinese Vice Premier Zeng Peiyan and North Korean Vice Premier Ro Tu Chol during Ro's visit to China, but the area that would be covered by the arrangement had not been made public. Editor: Yan
