The latest notice released states that, from 6 a.m. on September 26 to September 29, people who enter the country through Zhuhai-Macao ports will be quarantined for 14 days for medical observation. The existing outbound epidemic prevention and control measures remain unchanged.

These groups of people: cross-border truck drivers, funeral home staff, critically ill patients and medical workers, need to have negative nucleic acid test results within 24 hours when entering through Zhuhai-Macao ports.

It should be noticed that all these groups of people will live in a specific place and be managed in a seamless and hermetic route. In addition, funeral home staff and critically ill medical workers must go back and forth on the same day.

Macao entered a state of immediate prevention, with effect from September 25, following identification of two new confirmed COVID-19 cases respectively on September 24 and 25, linked to an imported COVID-19 infection. The two cases are the 65th and 66th cases recorded in Macao since the early stages of the pandemic alert in 2020. They are a 27-year-old and a 32-year-old, both males from Nepal and worked as security guards at the Golden Crown China Hotel.

Following the new cases, a second programme of citywide nucleic acid testing has been launched. It started at 3pm today (25 September) and will run until 3pm on Tuesday (28 September). Every member of the public is required to take a test during the period. They can do so in any one of an aggregate 52 testing stations available across the city.

The Government has implemented its district-specific and risk-specific epidemic prevention plan. Areas and buildings sealed off to the general public as prevention and control zones. Closed-loop management protocols are being practiced in the places at or near where the people involved in the 65th and 66th cases were living.

Meanwhile, non-tertiary education schools will suspend classes from September 25 until 3 October. Tertiary education institutions have suspended face-to-face classes and the specific arrangements will be notified by each institution.

The authority urged the public to cooperate with the government’s measures, to avoid going out, and if possible, to avoid leaving Macao. Members of the public were advised to observe closely anti-epidemic measures, and practice good personal disease-prevention measures, including the wearing of a protective face mask.
