Wang Chuqin and Wang Manyu crowned champions at WTT Macao 2021

Chinese table tennis rising stars Wang Chuqin and Wang Manyu have won the men’s singles final and women’s singles final, respectively, today (Sunday) at the WTT Championships Macao 2021 China Stars (WTT Macao 2021).

After an unexpected loss in the mixed doubles quarterfinal on Friday, world ranked no. 1 mixed doubles player Wang Chuqin surprisingly defeated many strong opponents such as Ma Long and Xu Xin to be finally crowned with men’s singles champion after overcoming Lin Gaoyuan 4-3 (11-8, 9-11, 11-9, 10-12, 9-11, 14-12, 11-9) this evening in the final.

Current world ranked no. 4 Wang Manyu, who achieved a victory over five-time World Cup champion Liu Shiwen 4-0 (11-6, 11-7, 11-7, 12-10), holds her gold medal and 45,000 USD prize money.

Meanwhile, mixed doubles pairs Xu Xin and Liu Shiwen defeated Fan Zhendong and Kuai Man 3-0 (11-6, 11-6, 11-5) in the mixed doubles final yesterday (Saturday), winning a total of 40,000 USD.

WTT Macao 2021 is a showcase with no world-ranking points, featuring a star-studded team from mainland China including Olympic champions Ma Long, Xu Xin, Fan Zhendong, Chen Meng, Sun Yingsha, Wang Manyu and Liu Shiwen, as well as the first  local player Cheong Chi Cheng in the WTT series.

The main tournament sponsor Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG) expressed earlier in a Facebook post that the championship taking place at Tap Seac Multisport Pavilion would "surely take Macau's sports tourism industry to new heights".
