Crape myrtle trees are now in full bloom by the side of Guabang Pavilion (挂榜阁) in the Honghua Lake Scenic Area, Huizhou, bringing splashes of pink and purple to the summer landscape.

The trees bloom from May to September, with the peak period from late May to July—the hottest months of the year—a flowering pattern rarely seen in other trees.

In Chinese culture, crape myrtle flowers often symbolize good fortune and hope, while the name of Guabang Pavilion is associated with academic success. Together, they have become a symbol of encouragement and best wishes for students sitting the national college entrance examination (gaokao) season in early June.
