Qixi Festival: Six romantic destinations for a Chinese Valentine's date

It's Qixi, Chinese Valentine's Day!

Known as the Chinese version of Valentine's Day, Qixi originated from a 2,000-year-old love story and falls on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month on the Chinese lunar calendar, which is Aug. 14 this year.

On this day, our busy life is full of romance and expectation. Longing for love, cherishing friendship, thanking yourself... In addition to shopping and dinner, there are some great places in Guangzhou for a romantic date on this special day. Let’s have a look!

▲ Riverside—Binjiang Road (滨江路)

Passing by after work, taking a walk after dinner, or visiting with your other half, Binjiang Road is a great choice! You can enjoy the river breeze and scent the faint fragrance of the banyan trees. With an orange afterglow and blue moonlight, just appreciate the river view, and enjoy the peace.

▲ Nightscape—Party Pier (琶醍)

The tramcar running along the riverside starts from the Canton Tower, and the forth station Party Pier is one of the highlights of the whole journey. In the evening, Party Pier is relaxed, romantic and fancy. The bars and the dim lighting create a romantic vibe, where you can spend some nice time with friends. Also, don’t forget to take some photos with the magnificent Canton Tower and Zhujiang New Town as the backdrop!

▲ Sunset—Taigucang Wharf (太古仓)

Here is one of the best places to watch the sunset with your beloved in Guangzhou. There are no tall buildings around, and the geographical location is ideal. The Wharf is a captivating destination for all to enjoy the breathtaking scenery of the city.

▲ Nature—Ersha Island (二沙岛)

The verdant Ersha Island is home to some of the most amazing landmark buildings such as Xinghai Concert Hall, Guangdong Museum of Art, and Man Lap Fong. Across the island are vibrant flowers, grass and trees. By the way, it’s also a wonderful place to enjoy a picnic. What are you waiting for? Come here to have a close encounter with nature!

▲ Square—Huacheng Square (花城广场)

Regarded as "Guangzhou's parlor", Huacheng Square is in the new central shaft line of Guangzhou and is the largest square built for civilian purposes in Guangzhou. It is surrounded by dozens of landmark buildings, including Guangzhou Opera House, Guangzhou Library, Guangdong Museum, the West Tower (Guangzhou International Financial Center) and the East Tower (Guangzhou CTF Finance Centre). The "Mall of the World", underneath Huacheng Square, is a high-end underground shopping mall. With a fountain, light show and music, you can enjoy a romantic night at this bustling square.

▲ Starry sky—Apo Liu Village (阿婆六村)

With an elevation of 730 meters, Conghua’s Apo Liu Village is the highest mountain village in Guangzhou with a high atmospheric transparency. You can see the stars clearly at night and the Milky Way if you’re lucky. Legend has it that weaver maid Zhinü and cowherd Niulang met once a year on the Milky Way on Qixi, a Chinese festival devoted to love. So how about watching the starry sky hand in hand with your sweetheart on this night?
