International Museum Day | Experience the power of Guangdong Museum

Opened to the public on October 1, 1959, Guangdong Museum is one of the first batch of national first-level museums and regional cultural relics protection centers. By the end of 2021, it has gathered 320,000 collections, including more than 53,000 pieces (sets) of natural specimens and fossils.

Museums, as cultural institutions, play an important role in preserving civilization, displaying and spreading culture, boosting the economy, benefiting people, promoting cultural exchanges and so on, said Xiao Haiming, curator of the museum, during the interview with Southcn.com and GDToday.

"We provide services both inside and outside the museum with our power." Xiao said that the museum annually holds more than ten high-quality exhibitions and 600 educational lectures and events, attracting over two million people every year. It has become an important cultural tourism landmark in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

About Guangdong Museum

Guangdong Museum provides comprehensive and multi-level services for people and all the museums across the province based on four platforms: Guangdong Museum Development Foundation, Mobile Museum Project, Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (Guangdong) Cultural and Creative Alliance, and Guangdong Grassroots Museum Co-construction Project.

The museum has been improving its services to better serve the public. During the pandemic, the museum remains open under strict prevention measures to boost the confidence of the society and release people's tension.

To celebrate the upcoming International Museum Day, Guangdong Museum has prepared various activities both online and offline, including "Profound Sounds: An Exhibition of Guqin Art and Culture", as well as "Museum in a Shoe Box", an exhibition showcasing mini museums designed by students using shoe boxes. Also, online content includes live streams and short videos that will be performed to the public.
