How do Chaoshan people define themselves?

Recently, at the Teochew International Convention and the World Chaoshan Entrepreneurs Convention, my eyes were immediately drawn to an enormous paper-cutting painting named "Chao", meaning "tides" in English. This stunning artwork, displayed at the events, not only highlights the intricate beauty of Chaoshan culture but also represents the vibrant energy and inspiring stories of Chaoshan people worldwide.

Through conversations with attendees and insights from community leaders, I discovered that "Chao" signifies more than just tides. It symbolizes strength, progress, global connection, and the spirit of returning to one's roots. These qualities define Chaoshan people and reflect the cultural heritage, pioneering spirit, and unity celebrated at the conventions.
