Construction of Second Humen Bridge progresses

Construction of the Second Humen Bridge project saw major breakthrough on May 25th as the last girder was put in place above the Nizhou Canal, marking the completion of its two main sections. The bridge is planned to open to traffic in the first half of 2019.

Known as the world’s widest steel-box-girder suspension bridge, the Second Humen Bridge is with 8 lanes and a designed traffic capacity of 100 thousand vehicles per day. Once completed, it will ease pressure on the existing Humen Bridge and shortening the commute between Guangzhou and Dongguan by half an hour.

The bridge is one of the major infrastructure projects in the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area, aiming to improve the flow of traffic between both sides of the Pearl River Estuary.
