“The 960169 hotline collaborates with major official hotlines to provide expats free and real-time interpretation services in the form of three-party conference calls. We have handled 16872 calls over the past 3 years and served 10607 expats from 113 countries in Guangdong,” said a staff member of Guangzhou Multilingual Public Service Platform (GMPSP)'s at a community event of the Guangyue International Community in Guangzhou on July 30.

According to Guangzhou Foreign Affairs Office, they launched the GMPSP and opened the 960169 hotline on July 30, 2019, aiming to help expats break language barriers.
The platform is now capable of providing interpretation services in 9 languages including English, Japanese, Korean, French, Russian, Arabic, Spanish, and Portuguese.
Thus far, the 96109 hotline has linked with 106 government and public service hotlines, 128 residential communities, 43 police stations, and 97 quarantine hotels to provide three-party conference calls, according to GMPSP.
During the event, the platform's staff member demonstrated how to use 960169 hotline's voice and video call services.
“I tried calling and the person I talked to had excellent English and was very friendly,” said Albert Wolfe, an American professor of Guangdong University of Foreign Studies. He participated in the activity and thrilled to share the useful hotline with his friends.
