757 thousand students attend “Gaokao” (national college entrance examination) in Guangdong on June 7 and 8 this year, with an increase of 11 thousand comparing to 2016.
In the two-day examination, students will go through four tests which include Chinese, Maths, English and Comprehensive test on Arts or Sciences. As the Chinese and Maths tests just finished yesterday, they immediately became one of the hottest topics on the social media as usual.
This year’s Chinese essay test is in fact highly relevant to the foreigners that are living or interested in China, showing the openness of the country. The essay question is as follow :
“A recent survey listed international students’ impressions of China in these key words: Belt and Road, panda, square dancing, Chinese food, the Great Wall, shared bike, Beijing Opera, air pollution, beautiful countryside, food safety, high-speed railway, mobile payment.
Please select two or three words mentioned above and use them to write a short essay to help foreign youth understand China. Not less than 800 words. ”
“I felt struggle when I saw the essay test as there were so many tags to choose from,” said Xiao Peng, a student of Guangzhou No.6 Middle School who just finished the Chinese test, “but in the end, I linked ‘shared bike’ with ‘air pollution’, and found it went on quite smoothly.”
The students will take the English and Comprehensive tests today. And the result of “Gaokao” is expected to come out on June 26.
