Cursive script (草书, cao shu) is a style of Chinese penmanship. The character "草" can mean "quick " or "rough", and the cursive script is not bound by rules for spacing or size. The number of strokes in characters is usually reduced to single scrawls of curves and dots, and calligraphers can freely show the movement of lines.

Qu Qianyun is a representative of calligraphers in the Lingnan region, especially famous for his cursive script. His calligraphy works are engraved in many stele forests across the country, including the Guangzhou Stele Forest (广州碑林) on Baiyun Mountain.

This exhibition will showcase more than 150 pieces of Ou's calligraphy works and about 40 pieces of calligraphy works from his teachers and friends. Exhibits mainly include Ou's wild cursive, ancient cursive, modern cursive calligraphy works. You can also see his scrolls, paintings, manuscripts and many other works.

Liu Sifen, former chairman of the Guangdong Federation of Literary and Art Circles, pointed out that Ou's works are full of creativity and can be appreciated regardless of whether people know the cursive script or not. "You don't need to recognize each character," he said, "calligraphy is a kind of art, and every stroke is rhythmic, reflecting the calligrapher's heart. What we need to do is to understand the innermost feelings of calligraphers from the lines and resonate with them."
