Guangzhou districts resume normal activity

Offline classes for primary and middle high schools in Conghua district of Guangzhou, Guangdong province, will resume on Thursday amid the lifting of closed-off management measures, according to a notice issued by the local epidemic prevention and control headquarters on Wednesday afternoon.

Operation of off-campus training and nursery institutions would also resume in an orderly manner, the notice said.

Closed-off management measures temporarily implemented across districts of the city were lifted on Wednesday afternoon as part of more scientific and precise efforts to contain the latest COVID-19 outbreak, according to the local health authority.

Resumption of classes and food services in other districts has yet to be announced.

In a notice issued by the Guangzhou Metro Group, normal operation of metro and tram services across the city were restored on Wednesday afternoon.

Passengers are required to check their body temperature and wear a mask before entering stations. Two entrances and exits at Pazhou station, which is very close to a large makeshift hospital, would remain closed.

Guangzhou reported 6,995 new infections on Tuesday, of which 68 were found at community level, without any reports of patients in severe or critical condition.

In hardest-hit Haizhu district there were 6,183 new infections reported on Tuesday, still highly concentrated in the risk areas of Datang, Kanglu, Longtan and Jinzili.

As of Tuesday, 41,405 patients have been discharged from hospitals.
