Recently, a comprehensive inspection was conducted on over 1,200 bridges (including interchanges, viaducts, pedestrian bridges and tunnels) in Guangzhou.

In addition to regular monitoring, load tests were conducted on Guangzhou Bridge, Renmin Bridge, and Hongde Interchange; crack detection was performed on the cables of Haiyin Bridge and Hedong Bridge, and to the steel structures of the Haizhu main bridge and approach. Reinforcement and repair work will be performed on Hongde Interchange, 4 Interchanges on Baiyun Road, Guangyuan Road Interchange and Haizhu Bridge approach.

Currently, Guangzhou has established archives for 477 bridges, conducted long-term monitoring on 24 bridges and regular examination on 327 bridges. 12 bridges, including Zhujiang Bridge, Haizhu Bridge and Donghaoyong Viaduct are to be reinforced and repaired.

The metro company has initiated two inspections to the elevated 31.2 km metro Line 4, finding inadequate anti-crash protection to piers and lack of high speed limit signs on some parts. Therefore response procedures for damaged elevated structure will be included in the metro emergency response plan.
