Overpasses and footbridges over more than ten major avenues will undergo thorough inspections and overhauls in order to avoid the potential risks posed by the recent heavy rainfall. 

Those to be examined include the Xian Lie overpass, De Ni overpass, Pan Fu overpass, Nong Lin overpass along Dong Feng Lu, the Li Jing Lu overpass, Xia Tang Xi overpass where it passes over Guangyuan Lu, the Zhu Jiang Xin Chen tunnel and the Nan Zhou overpass situated on Guangzhou avenue. Also scheduled are the Hua Guo Shan overpass over Huan Shi Lu, the Huan Li Gong footbridge over Huan Shi Xi Lu, overpasses crossing east of Guang Yuan and the Guangzhou-Shenzhen railway along Ke Yun Bei Lu as well as the Xiao Zhou Bian overpass in the Guangzhou University City.

The increased number of vehicles, as well as the heavy rainfall, threaten transport facilities, especially those overpasses and footbridges. The relevant municipal departments have found some potential risk points and since this April, the Guangzhou Municipal Engineering Maintenance Department has been systematically examining and repairing overpasses and footbridges over major avenues.
