Shenzhen's Folk Culture Villages theme park will renovate its Dai Village square into a "rain forest" wonderland for the Water-Splashing Festival celebration of the Dai minority to be held this summer, the park announced yesterday (Apr 10).
After it is finished before the summer holiday, the enlarged square will be able to accommodate 5,000 guests for water splashing.
The 30-million-yuan (US$3.74 million) project would become one of the major tourist attractions in the park, said its general manager Li Yanzhong.
The multi-functional wonderland will include five sections: an area for water splashing, a showroom displaying Dai exhibits, a 30-meter-high hall decorated with banana leaves, a dinning and shopping area, and changing rooms with showers for the guests.
"The new wonderland will strictly follow the design of the original Dai Village," said Li.
The existing 14-year-old square in the park's Dai Village, which can only accommodate 400 people at a time, is very crowded during the Water-Splashing Festival in summer.
