A parking space availablity indicator has recently been put into use on Tiyu Road East, the heart of the Tianhe business circle, showing the remaining spaces in the major parking lots and their locations.

These indicators are the most recent in want will become a trend in Guangzhou, ten lots have installed the convenience already, GT Land Plaza, R&F Center, Poly Tower, IFC, Guangzhou Opera House, Tianhe Sports Center, Teemall, Grandview Mall , Onelink Walk and Taikoo Hui. Updated every five minutes, the indicator displays the number of spaces in three colors: green means sufficient spaces, while yellow means a five percent vacancy and red only two percent.

The district government plans to apply the system in other lots located at premium offices and hospitals in Zhujiang New Town. It will also consider upgrading the indicator to provide more information about the lots.

Drivers find this helpful. Private car owner Wang said, "I used to run from one parking lot to another only to find it full, but now I don’t need to drive around and seek a parking space so desperately."
