The ceremony for the launch of the Intelligent Traffic Management & Command System was held in Cencun. With a cost of RMB 210 million and through 5 years of construction this system will speed up traffic of Guangzhou.

Zhang Guangning, Mayor of Guanghzou, Zhang Guifang, Vice Secretary of the Guangzhou Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), Chen Jianhua, Standing Member of the Guangzhou Committee of CPC, and Su Zequn, Vice Mayor, attended the ceremony.

In the 600 square meters command hall hung a huge screen on which the traffic status of the main roads of Guangzhou was shown, including the closed-circuit television images of the major intersections of urban areas, real time traffic data, the distribution of policemen and the handling process of traffic accidents.
"The launch of the system will further increase the traffic carrying capability of Guangzhou," Mayor Zhang said confidently, standing in the command hall. "After the system is completed, Guangzhou's traffic carrying capability will increase 20 percent, or even 30 percent, I hope." His speech earned thunderous applause.

The Intelligent Traffic Management & Command System consists of 15 sub-systems. Through the integration of information use, decision making and execution, the traffic handling ability of the city will be increased, enabling quicker response to traffic jams and accidents, more scientific control of traffic signals, more efficient punishment of those who are in violation of traffic rules and more accurate and timely traffic information for the public. With the system being put fully into operation, the traffic monitoring rate of the main roads will increase from the present 50 percent to 90 percent. Moreover, traffic management efficiency, as well as emergency treatment ability, administrative efficiency and service level, will increase greatly.
