GUANGZHOU Baiyun International Airport announced Sunday flights would no longer wait for late passengers.
Boarding procedures cease 30 minutes before takeoff and boarding gates close 15 minutes later, but planes sometimes wait for latecomers.
The number of Guangzhou people traveling by plane has been on the rise as the peak season approaches, but tourist groups cannot board before all members are present and this sometimes results in takeoff delays.
The airport reached an agreement with airlines Sunday to strictly adhere to the regulations.
A tourist group was denied their flight Sunday afternoon, the Southern Metropolitan News said. Of the 35 travelers, only 29 reported 35 minutes before takeoff.
Another three arrived five minutes later but the rest did not arrive in time.
