Shenzhen plans to build more tourist attractions in the next few years to add to its appeal to travelers.
A Shenzhen Economic Daily report said Tuesday (May 11) that construction of the new projects in Nanshan District would start soon.
A large wetland park by the Overseas Chinese Town Group will be established between Binhai Thoroughfare and OCT, occupying more than one million square meters. On completion, the park will be the closest to an urban area worldwide. Two companies in the United States and Canada have won bids for the park design.
A bird museum will be also set up near the mangrove nature reserve, the report said.
Another 500-million-yuan (US$60 million) French-style science theme park will be jointly established by the city's tourism group and French interests in Xili Township. Construction of a 15km resort corridor along Binhai Thoroughfare has started, linking Nanhai Hotel in Shekou and the mangrove area.
A State-level theatre covering 15,000 square meters and a 5,000sqm museum will be built inside the corridor.
