A few attractions in Guangzhou and the pubs:

Chen Families Hall - 7 Zhongshan Road
Now the Hall has become Guangdong Folk Arts and Craft Museum. It used to be the ancestral hall for all the Chen families in Guangdong Province. Built in 1890, it is decorated with traditional wood carvings, ceramic, brick, lime and cast iron works.

Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall
Built in 1929 on the site where the former Provisional Government Office stood. This 49 metres high octagonal structure, with a floor space of 3,700 sq. metres, was constructed in memory of the most important forerunner of the revolution in recent Chinese history. Built in typical and ingenious Chinese design, the hall has an imposing 71 metres span without one single column to support it. An amazing and beautiful architectural structure!

Tomb of the Nanyue King
Hidden in the concrete jungle today, this underground tomb was built 2,200 years ago (the Western Han Dynasty) for the second King of the Nanyue Kingdom at that time. This is the best preserved stone chamber tomb of Han, from which numerous cultural relics were unearthed. More than 1,000 articles including 3 gold seals which confirm the identity of King Zhaomo have been found and are on display.

Six Banyan Trees Temple - Liurong Road
It was built in 537 A.D. With many ancient tablets and old Banyan trees, the temple has long been a popular place for Buddhist activities. A splendid pagoda standing by the temple demonstrates the fine Chinese architecture created in early days.

Huaisheng Mosque - Guangta Road
Built in 627 A.D. during the Tang Dynasty to commemorate Mohammed, the prophet of Islam. During the Tang and Song Dynasty, Arab merchants selling spices, rhinoceros horns and ivory used to live in this area.

Baiyun (White Cloud) Mountain
About 6 km from the city, Baiyun Mountain's highest point stands 380 metres above sea level and can be reached by cable car. The mountain provides forests and scenic sites for people wishing to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life for a short while. A newly built aviary - the largest in China - is now open to the public.

Coach to Zhuhai or side trip to Cuiheng Village

From Guangzhou, you can take the coach from either the China Hotel, Garden Hotel, Landmark Hotel or the GITTIC Riverside Hotel to Zhuhai. Coach fare 50RMB. The journey is about two hours. You may however choose to stop over to see Cuiheng Village where Dr. Sun Yatsen's residence and a group of houses representing the rich and the poor over one hundred years ago are situated. They are now used as a folk museum showing visitors the rural life at that time. The two-storey home of Dr. Sun was a mixture of Chinese and Western style designed by himself. It retains the original layout of the house as it was when Dr. Sun was living there.

Going to Cuiheng Village, you have to catch a coach to Zhongshan at Jinhan Coach Station on the opposite side of the China Hotel at Guangzhou. Fare: 36 RMB. Get off at Fuhua Hotel in Zhongshan and change to bus no.12 at the bus stop in front of the hotel to Cuiheng Vilage. Fare: 4.5 RMB. The first bus leaves at 6:30 a.m. and the last one departs at 8:30 p.m

After visiting Cuiheng Village, you can catch a mini bus at the entrance of the village to go to Zhuhai. On arriving in Zhuhai, a short ride by bus no.4 will take you to Zhuhai Holiday Resort. The Youth Hostel is inside the resort and a hostel sign showing the direction is at the main gate.
