Kaiping Watch Towers is on its way to become China's 34th World Cultural Heritage. An UN expert teamed visited Jiangmen to do the final evaluation of the site this September. It was China's only site to apply for inclusion in "UN World Cultural Heritage" next year.
Efforts are made to discover, sort and protect historic heritages and culture resources of the province. In 2006, 29 items from Guangdong are selected as National Intangible Culture Heritage such as "Guangdong Herbal tea" and "Meizhou Kakka folk song", and 78 items has been listed as Provincial Intangible Culture Heritage.
