Most areas of Guangdong suffered heavy rainstorms in June. The flood crests of the Xijiang River and Beijiang River, both tributaries of the Pearl River seriously affected the cities and towns of Pearl River Delta.

Figures showed the floods have affected a population of 4.42 million living in 89 counties across the province and caused direct economic losses of 4.5 billion yuan. With Central Government's guidance, the provincial and local governments, soldiers and local residents fought against the flood together, and as a result, the flood have caused NO case of massive death and injure, the large and medium-sized reservoirs, as well as the main river and sea dikes across the province were all in a whole skin, all cities of town-level and above escaped from flooding-ins and main roads and railways have not been closed.

The government then earmarked 120 million yuan and put in lots of disaster relief materials to combat the calamities and help resume production.
