Flower fairs is Guangzhou's very unique way of celebrating the lunar New Year. Every district in Guangzhou organizes a flower market which usually opens a few days before Spring Festival and closes on the Lunar New Year's day. Huge crowds of people surge to the fairs to buy flowers.

Flowers are believed to be symbolic of wealth and high positions in one's career. During the flower fair, Cantonese always buy some Potted tangerine, Lucky Bamboo or Peach tree to wish a good luck in the new year.
