Experts from the Shenzhen disease prevention and control center and major hospitals offered public consultations on atypical pneumonia prevention in Dongmen, Luohu District, Wednesday.
Zhuang Zhixiong and Zhang Shunxiang from the center did not encourage the public to wear surgical masks and take anti-virus medicines while the cause for the disease was still unclear.
People visiting hospitals, medical staff and SARS patients should wear masks, said Zhuang at an interview with the Shenzhen Special Zone Daily Wednesday.
The city has 35 atypical pneumonia patients who are kept in isolated wards in a local hospital for treatment.
No cases were found in crowded areas like public transportation centers, said the experts.
Daily hygiene, ventilation in households and frequent sterilization and cleaning should be strictly imposed.
Since the center opened a consultation hotline four days ago, it has received 2,000 phone calls.
People can call 2553-1458 for consultations, 2563-2031 for information on sterilization or go to www. szcdc.net for further information.
