BJ to build health emergency response system
Latest Updated by 2003-06-12 08:50:43

Beijing is building a sound public health emergency response system to prevent a recurrence of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) or other contagious diseases, said Wang Qishan, acting mayor of Beijing here Thursday.

Wang made the remarks during a meeting with visiting Sweden-based Ericsson chief executive officer and president Carl-Henric Svanberg.

Wang said the outbreak of SARS in Beijing was basically under control. The fight against SARS had helped the city to cultivate a strong response team to control the disease and raised awareness of the importance of public health emergency response system.

Beijing welcomed Ericsson's investment in the city's telecommunications industry which had great potential in China, said Wang.

He also hoped Svanberg, who has been appointed an international entrepreneur advisor for Beijing, would give more advice for Beijing's economic development.

Svanberg congratulated Beijing on its achievements in the fight against SARS.

He said China was one of the three global supply centers for Ericsson, and cooperation between Ericsson and Beijing would be further strengthened.
