General Information:
Situated in China's southeastern coastal area, Fujian boasts a landmass of 121,400 sq. km., of which 80% is mountains, and a maritime space of 130.000sq.km. It has a population of 34 million. Under its jurisdiction there are nine municipalities, Fuzhou, Xiamen, Quanzhou, Zhangzhou, Putina, Sanming, Nanping, Longyan, and Ningde, with 84counties(or cities at county level) and districts.
Facing Taiwan across the Straits, Fujian is the starting point of the ancient Maritime Silk Route. It is also a major province along the southeastern coast opening to the outside world .The coastline is 3,300 km long, creating more than 120 natural harbors of all sizes with favorable conditions from the south to the north.

In 2003, Fujian's GDP was up to RMB524.173 billion, with 11.5% rise and about 3% higher than the average national growth.

In 2001, the proportions of the added value of the primary, secondary and tertiary industries in Fujian's GDP changed from the previous 16.3:43.7:40.0 to 15.3:44.7:40.0.
Revenue:
Fujian's revenue exceeded 42.354 billion yuan in 2001, up 14.6 percent.
Economy
Industrial output value: The industrial added value of Fujian totaled over 164.534 billion yuan in 2001, up 11.2 percent.
Agricultural output value: The added value of Fujian's agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and fishery reached 65.24 billion yuan in 2001, up 3.5 percent.
Pillar industries:
Fujian has formed a complete industrial system, with the petrochemical, electronics, machinery, construction, building material, forestry, fishery and aquiculture, and light and textile sectors as its pillar industries.
Advantageous Traditional Industries: Fujian has development advantages in traditional industries such as shoe making, textile and garments, handicrafts, gift, toy and agriculture.
Foreign Trade:
Fujian import and export made more progress in 2003 after rapid development in the previous year. The fulfilled amount of import and export reached US$35.335 billion, 24.7% higher than the previous year, among which export values were US$21.14 billion with 21.7% rise and import US$14.195 billion with 28.7% rise.
Transportation
Highways: The length of Fujian's highways totals 50,202 km, of which medium-grade roads stretch for 41,381 km; expressways, 144 km; first-class roads, 406 km; second-class roads, 4,328 km; and off-grade roads, 8,821 km.
Waterways: Fujian has 327 port berths, including 35 deepwater berths catering to 10,000-ton vessels and larger ones. The ports' comprehensive handling capacity exceeds 45 million tons. The Fuzhou and Xiamen ports rank among the nation's top 10 container ports. Motor vessels in operation total 3,530, with a shipping capacity of 1.38 million tons. It's connected by waterway with all ports nationwide, including those in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, and over 60 ports in 40 foreign countries.
Airports: Fujian has four airports: the Gaoqi International Airport in Xiamen, Changle International Airport in Fuzhou, Jinjiang Airport in Quanzhou, and Wuyishan Airport in Nanping.
