The Pan-Pear River Delta Regional (PPRD) Cooperation and Development Forum is a great event for the economic and social development in PPRD area, says Huang Huahua, governor of Guangdong Province.
PPRD cooperation will reallocate the resources in the region and form new development structure on advantages complementing and coordinated development for eastern, western, and central area of China.
For the regional cooperation, Hong Kong will play an important role by taking its advantages in finance, logistics and management, Guangdong will exert its strong points of fund, industry, and technology, while the other 8 provinces/regions will turn their abundant resources and huge markets into impetus for common development.
Guangdong, a pioneer in Chinese economic reform, which actively boosts the economic integration with Hong Kong SAR and Macao SAR, has gained remarkable achievements. In 2003, the import and export value between Guangdong and Hong Kong reached 205.46 billion US dollars, accounting for 72.4% of the total in Guangdong. The projects directly invested from Hong Kong hit 4531, amounting to 8.6 billion US dollars. By the end of 2003, enterprises invested from Hong Kong is up to 76944, with accumulated investment of 94.5 billion US dollars, taking up 67.3% of the total FDI in Guangdong.
With the implementation of CEPA, Guangdong is meeting with the opportunity to step up the cooperation with Hong Kong SAR and Macao SAR. Hong Kong and Guangdong cooperation conference, Macao and Guangdong cooperation conference is regularly held.
PPRD cooperation will promote the implementation of CEPA, and speedup cooperation of China-ASEAN free trade zone and maintain Hong Kong SAR and Macao SAR's prosperity and stability.
