Guangdong province will support infrastructure and large project construction in the less-developed regions with a total investment of 835.6 billion yuan, according to the province鈥檚 five-year鈥檚 plan to revitalize east, west and north regions, issued recent days.
As part of Guangdong province鈥檚 eleventh five-year strategy (2006-2010), these regions are expected to catch up with the province鈥檚 average development, with the per capita GDP reaching 16,800 RMB in year 2010.
The plan listed over 400 projects for development of these regions.
Industrialization
Investment worth 260 billion RMB will put to boost pillar industries, and the regions are encouraged to taking full use of their own advantage. The Gross Value of Industrial Output is predicted to double in year 2010, compare to 2000.
The west and east wings will focus on their construction of heavy industry and petrochemical outlets along the costal areas, such as Zhanjiang Steel Project in the west and Shantou, Chaozhou and Jieyang Petrochemical Base in the ease.
Infrastructure
To 2010, a rational rail, water and airline transportation system will be built in the east and west wings. The expressway and railway in the area will be over 1060 and 1120 km respectively. Ports are planed to handle over 240 million tons of goods, and airports have the capacity to serve 4.3 million passengers in the year 2010.
Construction of large scale power station in the coastal areas and nuclear and wind power plant will be accelerated.聽
Environment
About 2.5 billion RMB will be invested in the ecological environment protection projects, to maintain balance between industrial development and ecological system.
According to the plan, Guangdong will strictly control the predatory exploitation of resources, and reduce pollution and ecological damage in the development of processing industries.
