New expertise centre VAKlab makes Bokrijk the hub of craftsmanship and entrepreneurship

VAKlab opened its doors on 22 March 2018. This brand-new expertise and service centre with a focus on craftsmanship and entrepreneurship is housed at Bokrijk Castle. Limburg established VAKlab to stimulate the further development of modern-day craftsmanship and entrepreneurship.

Supporting technical talents in becoming independent entrepreneurs maintains a strong entrepreneurial culture in our province and makes the craftsmen of yesteryear the innovative entrepreneurs of tomorrow.

VAKlab is aimed at pre-starter students, starters and entrepreneurs with a focus on craftsmanship and offers a wide range of activities and services. VAKlab offers support to all those who have mastered a craft and wish to engage in professional activities based on this talent or further develop an existing business.

In 2019, VAKlab will be opening three studios in three historic buildings at the open-air museum, where craftsmen can interact with other specialists and disciplines, thus promoting new ideas and prototypes. These studios will also offer the possibility to gain practical experience in an environment that is fully up-to-date from a technical perspective.

VAKlab is also developing a physical and digital meeting place to accumulate and provide access to knowledge and expertise regarding craftsmanship and entrepreneurship. This includes the creation of a database linked to an online platform where the general public can come into contact with modern-day craftsmen.
