As one of the most important communication projects for West Guangdong, especially for Maoming, Shenzhen-Maoming High Speed Railway has been in the spotlight since its Maoming section was officially started in June 28, 2014. Now, the construction of the rail has entered a new phase: the track laying and bridge project are under way.
Since the construction of each section is going well, this rail is expected to open to traffic in October 2017, ahead of schedule, Southern Metropolitan Daily reported.
Once the rail is open to traffic, the travel time between Guangzhou and Maoming will be shortened to 2.5 hours from the current 5 hours, and that between Shenzhen and Maoming will be reduced to less than 3 hours from the current 7 hours.

The rail is the first high speed railway in western Guangdong. It has a total line length of 388 km and a total investment of around 59.3 billion RMB (about 10 billion USD), aiming at a speed of 200 km per hour.
As the first high-speed railway connecting the Pearl River Delta and the west of Guangdong, the rail starts from Shenzhen North Railway Station, passing Dongguan, Guangzhou, Zhongshan, Jiangmen, Yangjiang, and terminates at Maoming East Railway Station.
