Acting Chief Executive Donald Tsang launched Hong Kong's sustainable development blueprint Tuesday, saying he is confident the public is keen to help implement the schemes suggested.
Tsang, who chairs the Council for Sustainable Development, said there is a willingness from all sectors to take part in a constructive and co-operative dialogue about Hong Kong's future.
Launching the council's report Making Choices for Our Future, Tsang said the community understands the importance of taking forward Hong Kong's development in a sustainable manner.
The report presents the conclusions of the first public engagement process for a sustainable development strategy from July to November last year. It addresses sustainability issues in three pilot areas - solid waste management, renewable energy and urban living space.
"The engagement process is a new experience. We intend to buildon the lessons that we have learned to enhance the way we gather community views, both by explaining issues in more depth and by encouraging wider participation in public events," Tsang said.
"My colleagues on the council and I welcome suggestions as to how we can be more effective in involving stakeholders in building a sustainable development strategy," he added.
The council conducted a series of engagement events in the second half of 2004 to gather public views on the three pilot areas. It received nearly 2,000 written comments.
