Guangzhou gears up for Asian Games

Guangzhou 2010 Asian Games Bid Committee is to be established, according to Liu Jiangnan, chief of the Guangzhou Sports Bureau.

Liu, just comes back from a promotion tour around Asia, reveals yesterday ( March 16) a series of latest news about Guangzhou's preparing works for Asian Games bid:

-- The establishment of "Guangzhou 2010 Asian Games Bid Committee" will soon be announced by the State General Administration of Sport;

-- Slogan for the bid is now under discussion, and the catchword meaning "Asians are one family" will probably be accepted;

-- The bid report, revised eight times, has been submitted to the State Administration of Sport for examination and approval;

-- A delegation led by Xu Deli, Vice Governor of Guangdong Province, will head for headquarters of the Olympic Council of Asia in Kuwait to submit the bid report at the end of this month;

-- As the bid work turns into its second phase, the committee starts planning the evaluating group's trip in Guangzhou, including the route, sites and presentations.

-- The presentation, now being polished, will demonstrate 23 issues of 9 aspects raised by the Olympic Council of Asia;

-- In coordination with the bidding, Guangzhou plans to build 9 or 10 large-scale sports centers, including a 16,000-seat indoor stadium, a cycling stadium and a squash stadium.
 
-- The theme activity, as well as the start-up ceremony for the bid will be "The Myriad Long-distance Running";

--- From March to December, Guangzhou will hold a series of public exercise events and host over 10 international games to show its determination and ability.
