GUANGZHOU, Hong Kong and Macao should make a joint bid for the 2010 Asian Games, Hong Kong and Macao members of the Guanzhou Municipal Committee of the CPPCC have proposed.
Guangzhou could combine its expertise in organizing trade fairs, such as the biannual China Export Commodities Fair, with Hong Kong and Macao's expertise in other areas to help the bid succeed, Peter Lam Kin-ngok, chairman of the HK-listed Lai Sun Development company said Tuesday.
Speaking at the current session of the Guangzhou CPPCC, Lam said GZ could also make use of show business personalities in Hong Kong and Macao as well as the international media in the cities, to push the idea, the South China Morning Post quoted Lam as saying Wednesday.
Former Guangdong governor Zhu Senlin said recently there were 50 sports facilities in GZ which met Asian Games standards, while facilities such as SZ's cycling track and Dongguan's swimming complex could also be used because of the comprehensive transport links throughout the Pearl River Delta area.
