Fifty Shenzhen-based retail companies have signed a "No Fakes" pledge in a campaign launched Monday (Apr. 26).
A ceremony marking the opening of the campaign also recognized World Intellectual Property Day, which falls on April 26 each year.
Four pilot cities have been chosen for the provincial campaign. The three other cities are Guangzhou, Dongguan and Shantou.
The gist of the campaign is "no sale of goods with fake patents; no sale of goods with fake brand names; no sale of pirated audio-video products."
All signatories to the pledge are volunteers with no government involvement. If a company is found not abiding by the pledge, its "No Fakes" pledge certificate, awarded by the city government, will be revoked.
The first 50 signatories are all well-known retail companies such as Causeway Bay, Rainbow and Shirble.
