The single largest structure of the Guangzhou Petrochemical Oil Refinery Renovation and Expansion Project, the hydrogenation complex, was completed and handed over for use today. The project manager stated that the complex will bring Guangzhou's oil products up to Euro III standards. The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year and will bring Guangzhou Petrochemical's crude oil processing capacity to 13 million tonnes per annum.
Construction of the hydrogenation complex started on February 8, 2005 with an investment of RMB 1.233 billion. The complex is China's first deep-linked oil refining facility, requiring only one third of normal manpower. The project also features the largest scale and amount of engineering work ever seen on a refinery project in the country.
With the completion of the hydrogenation complex, the main structures of Guangzhou Petrochemical's 10 million ton oil refinery renovation and expansion project, involving a total investment of RMB 4.5 billion, is largely complete and will soon commence operations.
According to the project manager, the project will specialize in the production of gasoline, aviation fuel, LPG, light and heavy naphtha, and refined wax oil.
The hydrogenation complex will bring Guangzhou oil products up to Euro III emission standards by totally upgrading their quality. Guangzhou Petrochemical pointed out that any launch of oil products of Euro III standards must be approved by the government.
