A Chinese-English Bilingual Edition of "The Swedish Ship Gotheborg Sails Again", a Swedish book, has been published by Guangzhou Publishing House this July.
The book, produced on behalf of Svenska Ostindiska Companiet AB/The Swedish East India Company, is an easily accessible textual and graphical presentation of the entire unique East Indiaman "Gotheborg" project.
The book covers the marine-archaeological investigations of 1986-1992, the dream of a replica ship, the research and design process and the entire shipbuilding process 1995-2005, stage by stage until the launch, naming ceremony, sea trials, maiden voyage and departure for China.
It is a book of the sea and sailing. It describes what it was like to sail to China in the 1700s, and how a full-rigged ship is handled today.
The book also contains a vibrant historical look back at the Swedish East India Company in the 18th century, trade with China, the long expeditions and exotic goods, the East Indiaman "Gotheborg" and her dramatic end when she ran aground just short of her home port - including some enthralling excerpts from 18th century texts and new factual evidence.
