"Some proposals of the advisors are to be implemented and become reference to Guangdong's decision making. And Guangdong government will continue to hold the GDICC activities." said Guangdong Governor Huang Huahua at the press conference after the close-door conference of GDICC 2005 plenary yesterday (Nov 17).
Governor Huang Huahua and his 12 minds, after one-day-long conference on Guangdong's sustainable development, spoke confidently about Guangdong's future when meeting with the media.
Governor Huang said three major achievements were made in the Closed-door Conference: Firstly, the government broadened the vision and built up the confidence through communication with the advisors, who made meticulous analysis on the topic of Guangdong's sustainable development and brought about new concepts and proposals from the global perspective and their own professional knowledge. Secondly, the government and the advisors deepened the ties through the discussions. Quite a some of the advisors expressed their wishes to expand cooperation scale with Guangdong. For example, Siemens hopes to strengthen cooperation in areas of public transportation system, water treatment and environment protection. Marubeni hopes to help Guangdong in environmental infrastructures construction like Secondary water treatment.
Thirdly, the government showed a new image of Guangdong on this occasion. Speeches of the governor and vice governors expressed Guangdong's shrewd resolution and pragmatic attitude on building a harmonious province and realizing the sustainable development of the economy and society.
Governor Huang also said the People's Government of Guangdong decided to carry on the mechanism of the conference. Those concerned departments plan to start preparing for the next conference.
Governor Huang also made an assessment for the past five sessions of the Conference, saying these past sessions achieved positive results and met the bilateral expectations. A total of 119 proposals, received in the five sessions, improved the government's policy-making level, 45 of which delivered in the previous four sessions have been adopted by the government. In addition, it permitted advisors' organizations to further their understanding of Guangdong, as a result, most of these organizations extended their investment volume in the province and strengthened their cooperation. For example, the investment capital of ABB this year is 8 times than the year 1999.
Mr. Edmund Tse urged to erase barriers of HK insurance agents to enter Guangdong market Mr. Edmund Tse, Senior Vice Chairman of Life Insurance American International Group, Inc. (AIG) Chairman & Chief Executive Officer of American International Assurance Co., Ltd. answered the question raised by newsgd.com, saying there were many chances for both Guangdong and Hong Kong to enhance insurance cooperation under CEPA (Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement). He urged the related governmental departments to hold related certificate exams for HK insurance agents in Hong Kong, which is expected to encourage them to expand their business in Guangzhou and the whole province.
