Governor Huanghua delivers the advisory body's work report

The International Consultative Conference on the Future Economic Development of Guangdong Province opens this morning (Nov. 17) in Guangzhou White Swan Hotel.

The Governor's economic advisors and observers who are chairmen, presidents, CEOs or main decision-makers of famous multinational companies or institutes, will consult together about the sustainable development of Guangdong in the current situation, this meeting is the last plenary of the second phase of the Conference.

Mr. Edmund Tse, Senior Vice Chairman - Life Insurance of American International Group, Inc (AIG) as well as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of American International Assurance Co., Ltd. (AIA) and Antonio M. Perez, Chief Executive Officer and President, Eastman Kodak Company were appointed as new advisors for Guangdong Governor Huang Huahua.

Huang Huahua, Governor of Guangdong, said in the advisory body's working report in the Opening Ceremony that the second Conference has achieved positive results and met the bilateral expectations.

They manifested in the following three aspects:

Firstly, proposals from advisors helped broaden the visions of the Government of Guangdong and improved their policy-making level.

The government had made researches in line with the 26 advisory consultative reports collected in the last plenary and some of the advisors' proposals had been adopted as pragmatic work yardstick, like the proposals from ABB of Switzerland, BP of Britain, American International Group, Inc., Electricite de France, on the promotion of "transferring the enterprise business to the value-adding process that has the most competitive advantage". The province have held a series of promotions on "enhancing the province's innovative power with cut-edge technology", including a TV forum with the topic " From the Cost Advantage to the Value Orientation" and a seminar on " Enhancing the Ability of Creation and Innovation". These activities were intended to arise enterprises' consideration to build up their advantages in the value-adding process which is of greater significance so to bring the overall transformation of Guangdong's economy and to upgrade the provincial industries.

Secondly, the conference promoted communication and cooperation between Guangdong and advisors' organizations.

This conference enabled the enterprises in Guangdong, through participating in certain activities of the Conference, to have more exchanges with multinational organizations on the equal platform, to widen their vision, to arise their awareness of internationalization, and to promote cooperation. In addition, it permitted advisors' organizations to further their understanding of Guangdong, as a result, most of these organizations extended their investment volume in the province and strengthened their cooperation.

For example, Honda continues to expand productivity of its JV in Guangzhou in these couple of years and attaches great importance to strengthen its local R&D muscle. This year, the investment makes the construction reality to Honda Production Technologies (China) Ltd and Honda Automobile (China) Ltd. So far, Honda already has 8 projects invested in Guangdong, involving nearly US$ 300 million.

Thirdly, the conference spiral up the influence of Guangdong and the advisors' organizations home and abroad.

The Conference has hit a wide public concern from the major news media home and abroad. It turned an important platform internationally for a better understanding of Guangdong and vice versa. The advisors' organizations, through this platform, also elevated their popularity in China and enhanced the communication and cooperation on a common ground.

Apart from today's closed-door meeting, some of the advisors are to participate tomorrow morning's enterprise forum on "the entrepreneurs' individual development and social responsibilities".
