Guangdong's per capita gross domestic product (GDP) exceeded 3,509 U.S. dollars in 2006, according to statistics released by the Province's Statistics Bureau on January 23.
According to the country's plan, the national per capital GDP will reach 3,000 USD by the year 2020, and Guangdong province have hit the target now. "It is not only an economic growth in quantity, but also a sign of quality upgrade", expert said, "the number is an indicator that Guangdong's economic development can be compared to those of medium-income countries or regions".
Ou Weidong, deputy director of the Statistics Bureau of Guangdong Province, said that the Province's GDP totaled 2.6 trillion RMB, up 14.1 percent in 2006 and accounted for 1/8 of the countries' total. In 2006, Guangdong province's industrial added-value totaled 1.072 trillion RMB; the annual foreign trade volume amounted to 527.21 billion RMB; fiscal revenue hit 511.7 billion RMB, and the tertiary industry added-value reached 1.097 trillion RMB.
Ou said Guangdong witnessed fastest growth of consuming and rural per capita annual income in this decade, rising 15.7 and 6.4 percent respectively in 2006. And the local revenue increase 20.5 percent, highest growth rate in recent 5 years.
