Guangdong policy makers analyzed the province's social and economic situation and worked out major economic strategies and policies for 2007, in the 10th Plenary Session of the 9th Guangdong Provincial Committee of the CPC (Communist Party of China) during Dec. 20-21, Guangzhou.
The year of 2006 witnessed great progress in the province's economic development. The gross domestic product (GDP) is expected to reach 2.58 trillion yuan, an increase of 14 percent from a year earlier.
The fiscal revenue surged to 500 billion yuan and the foreign trade exceeded 500 billion yuan, while the overall consumption of energy per unit of GDP cut by 3 percent.

The meeting stressed that the province should accelerate development of social systems, such as education, health care and social welfare.
Free textbooks will be offered to the rural students in 9-year compulsory education from September, 2007.
More efforts will be made to improve the public security system. The monthly medical subsidy in east and west wings and northern mountainous areas will rise to 35 yuan per person.
